The Fundació Clínic per a la Recerca Biomèdica is a non-profit institute founded in May 1989 with the aim of carrying out activities to promote and manage biomedical research and teaching in the field of health sciences.

 

On 17 June 1992, the Mixed Research Unit, formed by high-level research teams from the Hospital Clínic i Provincial de Barcelona and the Faculty of Medicine of the Universitat de Barcelona, was recognised and accredited by the Spanish Ministerio de Sanidad y Consumo.

 

The Fundació Clínic–IDIBAPS wishes to form and maintain stable partnerships with private industry, working alongside the pharmaceutical industry and enterprises devoted to biomedicine and biotechnology.

 

By way of example, in the year 2000, 251 clinical trials were conducted with drugs or biomedical devices at different stages of development, and 80% of these were sponsored by private companies.

 

Likewise, the organisation’s General Services and Scientific and Technological Services departments and the Centro de Epidemiología, Evaluación y Soporte offer their collaboration and technical and human resources to any institution, public or private, requiring them.
